JL WINE

wine2.jpgJames & Janet Luxton first established a small winery/vineyard & gallery in the Lower Hunter - Undercliff - and operated successfully for ten years before the lure of the city lead to five years operating JL Etching, a studio/galley in Paddington.
A trip to the Adelaide Hills resulted in a return to the excitement, romance & challenge of winemaking The purpose built rammed earth winery/gallery with adjoining residence was built in 2007 and designed by Janet to compliment the property's rural heritage. A small vineyard was planted with moscato bianco, 'Uva Apiana' other rural pursuits included a micro orchard, olives, hay cutting & cattle.
From 2008 JL produced a Riesling & Shiraz. These wines reflect regional characters with good flavour, balance & structure. 2010 was the first vintage of Uva Apiana, aromatic, distinctive & delicious- Grape of the Bees. The labels are screen printed using new techniques enabling the design to circle the bottle. The Vino-lok glass closures and bottles are reusable and chosen to preserve pure fresh flavours & prevent cork taint, an elegant package that reflects the wine. Very limited quantities were produced with all the winemaking completed by the proprietors.
